Sphinx Rock

Walked on July 16, 2013September 30, 2020

The Trail

Leaving from The Springs day use area, the small sandstone outcrop of Sphinx Rock makes a great short walk for all the family. Providing great views of Mount Wellington, Hobart and the eastern shore the walk is well worth the 1 hour return journey. The walk itself is just under 3km return via a well formed flat walking track. Sphinx Rock is a perfect family winter walk when access to The Springs is open and the weather is clear.

Walkers wishing to go slightly further can continue on to Junction Cabin another 3km return.

Getting There

View Google Map Directions
From Hobart head west via Davey Street (A6). Keep in the right lane and continue past the turn off to the southern outlet. After 6km, turn right onto Pinnacle Road (C616). The walk starts 3.5km along this road behind the main shelter at The Springs car park.
